MULLIGRUB "Soft Grudge" (Self-released)
With the cover art I had absolutely no idea what to expect. Was this happy 90s nostalgia pop? Electronic synth? Some new band from Canada? One of those indie bands? It turned out to be almost everything except the electronic synth. For some reason, pastels always make me think "electronic music." It's almost never the case. Honestly the first thing that popped into my head was "Alanis Morissette." Maybe a little more basement rock band vibe, or if Morissette had a collection of B-Sides and demo versions of songs. I can feel the careless summer days of drinking slurpees before I had bills and cavities, though growing up I listened to mostly Queen and that Chumbawumba CD.
