Ryan Rousseau is known to some as Elvis Wong of the Reatards
and others as the founder of Destruction Unit. But I’d be damned if, from music
alone, a fan of either of those bands would be able to recognize Dismal Light
as another one of his projects. Trading in stringed instruments for electronic
ones, Rousseau has decided to use his Dismal Lights project as a chance to dabble
in ambient house music. The end result is admirable. Rousseau’s creative
decision to put time into a solo project which sounds foreign to the more
well-known side of his discography has resulted in a tape full of the
atmospheric textures that would make Eno blush.
