NYXY NYX
“Spirit Exchange”
(Blight Records)

If “Bedroom GrungeFolk” ever catches on, Nyxy Nyx ought be considered one of said genre’s progenitors. Imagine early Sponge blended up on delayed rocks with a shot of Emitt Rhodes’ criminally underlooked “Mirrors” album, but, like, with the vocalist’s diction all but shoe-g(l)azed into obscurity and layered dynamically with low and high baritone bolsterings.

Hazy dynamics aside, “Spirit Exchange” is a magical, melted string of sugary earworms that’s novel and nuanced enough to make repeated listens back to back a real treat, so pop it in on a sunny Sunday afternoon & drift along a while…
